Lethal love

Lethal, invasive,
decorative or tasty,
seen in infatuation
will blossom -or not- in time.


The enchanting lantana with its multicolored blossoms enlivens Arizona streets and seems the perfect transplant for our Virginia home. The gorgeous berries are said by some to be edible when ripe, while others claim they’re always deadly. Birds carry off the fruits and scatter the seeds, creating an invasion countered only by winter frost.
Somehow, knowing the dangers makes this bad-boy plant even more attractive. But is this love affair doomed to disappointment?
