Tidy mind

Dreaming of an uncluttered mind,
choosing what to retain, maintain
or discard, synonyms scatter unrestrained,
toppling stored metaphors, revealing clichés,
aphorisms and adages culled in editing;
I’m detained, browsing my brain’s detritus,
tempted to save a few, trying to refrain.
I stand fast, abstain.

Inspired by dVerse (I used only synonyms for keep.)

  1. Nicely done, Denise, and I like the way you used only synonyms for keep. I much prefer editing my poetry to decluttering the room I write in! I’m not sure if my mind is uncluttered, there seems to be always something going on, over which I have no control! A quadrille I can identify with.
