Do you think, at your age, it is right?

“You are old, father William,” the young man said,
“And your hair has become very white;
And yet you incessantly stand on your head —
Do you think, at your age, it is right?”
*

“When I am old…” I thought, “I’ll live above
a spice market, drinking cardamom tea poured
from an antique brass samovar by candlelight,
perusing memories of wild Huckleberry friends.”

Now I am old, with cultivated friends, and live
in a verdant land of blackberries and roses,
where the grass is always greener,
drinking cumulonimbus tea by sunlight.

I think, at my age, it is right.

This paint chip prompt took me off in all directions, *Lewis Carroll, exotic lands, a Mississippi River raft, and a children’s song in Spanish containing the phrase “sopa de nubes” or “cloud soup.” (Animales by Quilla)
