Chanterelle and her sisters

Once a rainbow touched the soil
and into life sprang Chanterelle,
orange-swathed and apricot scented; Violet
Cort, plum perfect, gleaming; Stropharia
verdigris like sea glass, Tremella
draped in antique lace, sister Hericium
in blizzard white; azure Leptonia
and others, as if from outer space
but linked and growing underground,
multicolored remnants of a promise
sprouting out in fairy rings and lighthouses.

Inspired by a Paint Chip Poetry Prompt with apologies to Linda, who dislikes mushrooms.
The Violet Cort photo is from Virginia Wildflowers.
