Thanks, Ma!

As fall colors fade like a lost balloon,
red receding into gray, the shade trees,
now bare, show gargoyle sneers, looming
in leaf-litter where ferns once grew.

But Mother Nature left a winter bento box,
her oekakiben of evergreens and holly sprigs,
a line of trees mimicking a mountain peak,
feeding us hope and healthy greens.

Thanks to Linda Kruschke for another great paint prompt! This one reminded me of seeing the movie “The Red Balloon” when I was a child.
