Giorni tediosi by Gabriella Paci

Giorni tediosi, Gabriella Paci*
Humdrum days, translation by Denise DeVries

Humdrum
rain-soaked days
under a sky
mirrored in mud
among scattered memories
of black prosthetic splints:
arms open, pleading
for a blue corolla
where eyes
may search for stars.

Dreary days
dragged along by endless
grumbling weather,
no reprieve
on pending sun:
miserly promises
of tattered dreams
abed, quilted
in melancholy
in this rainy winter
awaiting a new season.

Giorni tediosi
Gabriella Paci

Giorni tediosi
intrisi di pioggia
sotto un cielo
specchiato nel fango
tra smarriti richiami
di neri stecchi protesi:
braccia aperte a chiedere
una corolla di azzurro
dove mettere gli occhi
a cercare le stelle.

Giorni tediosi,
portati da un tempo
stizzito che non sconta,
non ammette riprova
dei conti in sospeso:
solo avare promesse
di resti di sogni
addormentati
tra coltri di malinconia
in quest’inverno di pioggia
nell’attesa della stagione nuova

* Gabriella Paci is an award-winning Italian poet. I found “Giorni Tediosi” on “italian-poetry.org” on a gray morning that seemed to have relapsed to winter. To me, “corolla di azzurro” was like a blossom of hope on a rainy day. (Despite all the days like this I’ve been through, it was difficult to find any photos of them.)
