Hunting an urban or river whiff
I inhale like a hound, in a cityscape
wrapped around a warship,
winding, weaving into
the wharf’s woof and warp.
In a park, I jab my nose
into a spray of flowers downwind
from a fountain, smell nothing.

Inspired by #dVerse.
In my last Haibun posted on GoDogGoCafe, I promised a scent survey of two more cities. I was in Williamsburg, Virginia on Saturday, but I spent all my time in a bookstore, and we all know the bouquet of new books. I explored Norfolk’s Pagoda and Oriental Garden a bit on Sunday, but on that hot, dry day, my olfactory gift failed me.

A better view of the fountain
