Dog Days

The timeless cycle winds its way
from late August’s panting breath
marking the dog star’s* rise
to cooler breezes rustling trees;
leaves raise green hems to reveal
yellow, crimson and golden tones
concealed by photosynthesis.

(I know, chlorophyll actually colors plants green and it’s simply a chemical that aids photosynthesis, but I really wanted to use that word there.)
